Armchair Munzees

posted Jan 28, 2013, 8:44 AM by Greg Jewett   [ updated Mar 4, 2013, 7:02 AM ]

There are several "armchair" munzees that you can hunt down and capture while sitting it your chair.  However, keep in mind that you must have a GPS lock, so you will need your tablet, laptop, phone, or other electronic device outside with you to view these munzees and capture them.  Of course you can print them as well, but keep it to electronics and let's not kill any trees!
Munzee on Wikipedia:
For some, this particular armchair munzee has MIA and can not be captured, because the Munzee on the official wikipedia page has been modified or changed to "undeployed".

Capture this one for the 5 points.

You are looking for specially marked Heinz Co. ketchup bottles that sport a QR Code that when scanned gives you a URL to support fallen soldiers.  However, it is also a capture capable QRCode for Munzee points.

If you can not find a bottle near you:

Munzee and the Plano Fire Department teamed together to make a Munzee available.  Unfortunately is no longer available, however if you do enough searching around in the Munzee Forums, you will find it.

Here it is for those who really want to get it, but don't want to wave there fingers of the keyboard and search for it!

Munzee was in support of the Boy Scouts of America at a NOAC conference.  They introduced the game to them, created a special series of QR code Munzees for the participants to capture.  They left one Munzee active (deployed) after the conference was over for all to enjoy.

From the press release:

Grab Your Smart Phone and Participate in the Munzee LegacyA new social scavenger hunt is coming to NOAC 2012! Regions, sections, lodges and Arrowman will be competing during the conference to see who can earn the most points and win fabulous prizes through the Munzee Legacy game!!!

Arrowmen earn points by capturing munzees, which are special QR codes that need to be scanned with a smart phone and the Munzee App. Munzees will be found around the campus of Michigan State University as you attend conference events. Also, each participant will receive a personal munzee in your registration packet that may be shared with other guests which will lead to more points.

To participate in the Munzee Legacy, Arrowmen need a smart phone and the Munzee App. The Munzee App is a free download.

  1. Once the Munzee App launches, press the Capture button and test the App by scanning the barcode below:

That is it!  You are all set to start earning points when you arrive on campus.  Good luck!!!

The "Contra" video game Munzees.
If you want to grab this munzees in the spirit of the game, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to any of the top Munzees. For instance:
  2. Click to add a new journal
  3. Don't type anything in the box, instead use your up/down/left/right keys and type this in:
up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A
  4. Then get your smart phone ready to capture 4 munzees.
This is actually known as the "Konami Code", as it appeared in pretty much every game they wrote at that period of time.

There are many "armchair" munzees that can be found directly on the Munzee site.

  • Look around on the Munzee website home page and you will find a capable Munzee there.
  • Try to find something that is "not there" on the Munzee site.  Hint: Do you know the HTML code for a web address that leads to a website that is no longer there?
  • Need some more help on the Munzee site, look around in the help section to familiarize yourself with the game, some rules, sample hides, and you will get a bonus as well, another capable Munzee for points.

With the January 2013 announcement of vinyl weatherproof munzee stickers, the Munzee team put an announcement on their FaceBook page that enables you to scan a Munzee that is stuck to the Munzee worker-bee "Rob"'s face as it appears he fell asleep fulfilling orders.

First Munzee Captured

Team GeoJewett has branched out to other games as well.  While Geocaching is our favorite still, the Munzee Hunting is fun as well.  After resolving some technical difficulties with Muzee app on our iPhones, we were able to capture our first Munzee in Round Rock, TX -- Where 35 & 45 intersect? (created: wanderer).  There are not many in the immediate Austin area to capture as it seems there are in surrounding cities, but we hope to cure that with deploying some of our own.
